North Caicos

North Caicos is the third largest island in the Atlantic Ocean located in the Caicos Islands and is part of the British overseas territory of the Turks and Caicos Islands.

It is separated from the neighboring islands of Parrot Cay and Middle Caicos only by narrow inlets. The land area of ​​North Caicos is 116 km ². The island is the Flamingo Lake, a 5 km long and in the meantime at high tide the sea open brackish lake, divided equally into two large peninsulas almost, which are then connected only by a half a mile wide isthmus in the north.

On the east coast of the southern peninsula of the main town of Bottle Creek is located ( 1,030 inhabitants) and the airfield of North Caicos. On the northern peninsula, the villages Whitby / Kew ( 898 inhabitants) and Sandy Point are (224 inhabitants). Now live on North Caicos approximately 2,150 people ( 2001 census: 1,347 residents ).
