North Kazakhstan Province

Northern Kazakhstan ( kasach. Солтүстік Қазақстан облысы / Soltüstik Qasaqstan oblysy, Russian Северо - Казахстанская область / Severo- Kasachstanskaja Oblast ) is the smallest of the 14 regions ( Oblystar ), in the Republic of Kazakhstan is divided. Its capital is Petropavlovsk.

Geography

The area ( Oblys ) located in the extreme north of the country and has an area of 98,000 km ² and 580,000 inhabitants. It is bordered by Russia to the north and the Pavlodar areas in the east, the south and Aqmola Qostanai in the West.

Northern Kazakhstan occupies the southern edge of the West Siberian Plain. It is influenced to a large extent by gently rolling hills. The main river Ishim with its tributary Imanburluk flows through the area in which in the 1950s mainly wheat has been cultivated since the so-called " new ground campaign." The capital city Petropavlovsk is located on the Ishim near the Russian border.

In the Oblys there are more than 1,000 lakes, the majority of freshwater lakes. The largest are the Schaglytenis, the North and Südkak, the Akusch, the Taranköl and Stanowoje. Northern Kazakhstan is located in the forest-steppe and steppe zone. In the forest-steppe are dominated by birch and aspen and there are many swamps. Forests account for eight percent of the territory.

Demography

The Kazakh census of 2009, after the population is divided as follows: Ethnic Russians represent 50.43 % of the population, 33% Kazakhs, Ukrainians, 5%, German 3.5%, Poland 2.5%, 2.2% and Tatars Belarusians 1.15%. 2.1% relates to other nationalities.

The proportion of Germans in the total population went from 1989 by almost 10 % to 3.5 % in 2009. The majority of Germans in Kazakhstan has now emigrated as ethnic Germans to Germany. The Rajon Tajinscha is the circle within Nordkasachstans with the highest percentage of Germans who still represent about 10 % of the population there. Also noteworthy is the size of the Polish minority in the same Raion, which accounts for almost 22 % of the population there.
