Nossentiner/Schwinzer Heath Nature Park

The nature park Nossentin / Schwinzer Heide is located in the western area of the lake district in the counties of Mecklenburg Lake District, Rostock and Ludwig pleasure Parchim in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. It lies between the cities of Plau am See, Goldberg, Krakow am See and Malchow. It was founded in 1990 and finally confirmed in the State Ordinance 1994. The total area of the nature park is located at 365 km ². 60 % of this area is covered by forest, about 14% are lakes and rivers, the remaining area is cultivated landscape. Overall, there is the natural park nearly 60 lakes that fog and the Mildenitz rise here. A special feature of the nature park are the Sander leftover sand and gravel deposits of glacial origin. Numerous Moore dominate the landscape. In the nature reserve breeding eagles, osprey and bittern. In addition, bison are bred on the Damerower Werder. The nature park is easily accessible via the A19, junction Malchow. Near the nature reserve lies the monastery Dobbertin. The nature park is bordered to the north by the Natural Park Mecklenburg Switzerland and Lake Kummerow and to the northwest by the natural park Sternberger Lakeland.

The work of the Nature Park is supported by a Friends of the Foundation and Reepsholt for nature conservation and environmentally sound use of resources.

  • North Shore Lake Plau (650 ha)
  • Upper mist lakes ( 496 ha)
  • Paschensee (228 ha)
