Notting Hill Gate tube station

Notting Hill Gate is an underground station of the London Underground in the urban district of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. It is located in the Travelcard Zone 1 and 2 north-west of Kensington Gardens, in the center of the neighborhood Notting Hill. Here there is a transfer possibility from the Central Line to the Circle Line and the District Line. In 2011, 17.36 million passengers used the station.

Was opened the station on October 1st 1868 by the Metropolitan Railway, the predecessor company of Metropolitan Line - part of the route between Paddington and Gloucester Road which was traveled in 1884 by the District Railway ( predecessor of the District line ). On July 30, 1900, the Central London Railway, the predecessor of the Central Line, with their own platforms followed. Since 1949, the Circle Line is considered as a separate line while the Metropolitan Line was withdrawn.

Until the 1950s, the platforms of the Central Line and the Circle / District line were separately constructed. Because they were built by two competing companies, there were two separate station buildings on both sides of the road, with no direct connection with each other. They built a new joint ticket hall and connecting tunnel, which opened on March 1, 1959. The station building of the District / Circle line with the partially glazed semi-circular roof is since 1984 listed building (Grade II).
