Nová Role

Nová Role ( German Neurohlau, formerly New Rohlau ) is a city in the Czech Republic. It is located eight kilometers north-west of Karlovy Vary on the river Rolava and belongs to Okres Karlovy Vary.

Geography

Nová Role is located in Egergraben on the right bank of the Rolava. West of the city begins the lignite mining area of Sokolov. By Nová Role State Road 209 Chodov after Mezirolí and the railway Carlsbad Johanngeorgenstadt lead to the branching here local railway to Chodov.

Neighboring towns are Smolné Pece and Fojtov in the north, Děpoltovice in the northeast, Mezirolí in the east, Stara Role in the southeast, and Jimlíkov Božičany in the south and Hamry in the northwest.

History

The town was first mentioned as Nowa Raluna documented in 1293. Supposedly already in the 12th century a castle Loket associated to the hunting lodge have found. Between 1359 and 1411, the village belonged to the castle Loket and then came to 1553 to rule Sokolov. 1554 the silts were new owners and Nová Role came to power Schlackenwerth. 1622 acquired the Lords of Nostic the place and held him up to the replacement of patrimonial regimes in 1848. After the discovery of larger kaolin deposits of landowners Karl Hass man erected a Kaolinmühle and schlämmerei. 1881 was the local train from Chodau after Neudek. 1892 the place had grown to 567 inhabitants and 79 houses. With the inauguration of the Erzgebirge Semmering from Karlovy Vary to Johanngeorgenstadt the place in 1899 was awarded a connection to the Saxon railway network. 1921 Ceramic Works Ltd. was founded. 1930 lived 1125 people in Neurohlau. During the Second World War, was formed in October 1942 in New Rohlau a concentration camp. After the war, the German inhabitants were expelled and used the former concentration camp as an internment camp for German.

The local government reform of 1960 Mezirolí was incorporated. Since 1964 Nová Role is a city. The porcelain factory now operates under the name as Karlovarský porcelán Thun and is the largest employer in the city.
