Novovolynsk

Novovolynsk (Ukrainian Нововолинськ; Russian Нововолынск ) is a city in northwestern Ukraine, in the Volyn region near the border with Poland.

For the municipality, the urban-type settlement Schowtnewe counts ( Жовтневе ).

History

Established in the early 1950s as a working-class city for there also started coal mining, this was always the center of urban development.

The end of the Soviet Union in 1991 and the subsequent economic collapse ushered in a period of stagnation. Many residents have moved to cities or abroad to earn money there.

Economy

Although several mines were shut down, the coal mines are still an important economic factor.

Traffic

The only public transport is by bus, which Novovolynsk with the nearby towns, for example, Lutsk, Kovel and Lemberg ( Lviv ), connect. The existing track is to be used only for freight. Near the town is a border crossing ( Zosin / Ustyluh ) is to Poland.
