Nový Jičín District

The Okres Nový Jičín ( District New Titschein ) is a city in Moravian-Silesian Region of the Czech Republic. The Okresy are comparable in size with the counties in Germany, the district administrations were dissolved on 31 December 2002.

Since January 1, 2007 include the city Klimkovice and the municipalities Olbramice, Vřesina and Zbyslavice to Okres Ostrava -město.

The district lies in the southern part of the industrial area of Greater Ostrava and extends from Kuhländchen up to the Oder Mountains. With 882 km ² it is one of the smaller districts with 53 municipalities, nine cities. 65 percent of the area is used for agriculture. In Okres Nový Jičín approximately 152,000 people live.

The region is rich in natural mineral resources, especially for the construction industry as well as a small black coal deposits. In the cities, the industry is concentrated in the areas of automotive, mechanical engineering and commercial vehicle production.
