Novy Uoyan

Nowy Uojan (Russian: Новый Уоян ) is an urban-type settlement in the Autonomous Republic of Buryatia (Russia) with 3963 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The settlement is located in the central part of here about 50 km wide Upper Angarasenke, in the north of the Upper Angaragebirge ( Werchneangarsker Mountains) and in the south by the Northern Mujagebirge ( Seweromuisker Mountains) is enclosed, two more than 2500 meters high mountain ranges in the system of Stanowoihochlandes. Nowy Uojan is located about 550 kilometers (direct distance ) north-east of the Republic capital of Ulan -Ude and about eight miles from the left bank of the Upper Angara.

The settlement is part of Rajon Severo- Baikalsky ( North Baikal ), whose administrative center Nischneangarsk is just 140 kilometers away to the southwest.

History

The village was founded in the mid-1970s, near the left bank of the Upper Angara located village Uojan in connection with the construction of the Baikal - Amur Mainline (BAM ). The place name is accordingly for new Uojan. Station and settlement were built by construction workers from the then Lithuanian SSR (in the framework of propaganda to the All-Union Komsomol construction project BAM each took one or more regions of the former Soviet Union sponsorships most to be erected stations and settlements along the route).

1976, the status of an urban-type settlement was awarded. Economy and infrastructure

Nowy Uojan is an important station of the Baikal - Amur Mainline ( 1242 line kilometers from Taischet ), which in practice is the only economic factor. The route crosses near the settlement on a 350 -meter-long bridge, the Upper Angara.

There are projects to build a 700 to 800 kilometer cross-connection between BAM and Trans- Siberian railway on the territory of Buryatia with northern endpoint Nowy Uojan, starting either from Nowoiljinski ( Transsib - kilometer 5736, the area of ​​East-Siberian railway), or by Mogson in neighboring Transbaikalia ( Trans-Siberian km 6054, the Trans- Baikal railroad ). Due to lack of funding of the track construction, however, was frozen.

By Nowy Uojan also performs the following BAM road. From these branches east of the settlement a road into the village about 70 kilometers away from Kumora.
