Nowy Dwór Gdański

Nowy Dwór Gdański [ nɔvɨ dvur gdaɲsci ] ( German Tiegenhof ) is a city with a seat urban and rural community of about 10,000 inhabitants in the north of Poland. It is located 36 kilometers south-east of Danzig to the Tiege (Polish Tuga ). It is the capital of the powiat Nowodworski in the Pomeranian Voivodeship.

History

Nowy Dwór Gdański originated as a settlement next to a Domänengut the Loitz family, a merchant family from Danzig, which had to sell his property in 1572 because of insolvency. Among the next owners, the pond family, Tiegenhof to the main courtyard was a Starostei. Over time, the settlement grew into a market town with craftsmen, shopkeepers, Krügern and gardeners. Outside the town there were 1664 two windmills and a distillery.

On the grounds of the main court was built in 1784 a Protestant church, which was rebuilt in 1831-1834 after plans by Karl Friedrich Schinkel. 1848 was the construction of a Catholic Church.

After Tiegenhof held the status of a market town since 1859, it received city rights in 1880.

Since 1881 Tiegenhof has a railway connection, which was expanded in 1886 to over Neuteich Simon village. Since 1900, the city is also on the narrow gauge railway network of former West Prussian Kleinbahnen AG (today: Żuławska Kolej Dojazdowa ) connected.

Traditional farms in Tiegenhof were the almond factory in the Stobbe family that burned since 1776 gin, and which had existed since 1784 Brewery Stobbe. The Tiegenhofer oil mill and the sugar factory had a good reputation.

The city belonged to the county since 1818 Marienburg (West Prussia ). Since 1920, she was the county town of the district Large Werder, who was until 1939 part of the Free City of Danzig.

After the Second World War the city became part of Poland and was named Nowy Dwór Gdański what about Neuhof near Gdansk means. Between 1954 and 1975, Nowy Dwór was the seat of a Powiats, since 1999 the city has made a county seat.
