Nuno Espírito Santo

Nuno Simões Espírito Santo Herlander ( born January 25, 1974 in São Tomé, São Tomé and Príncipe ), better known as Nuno is a former Portuguese football goalkeeper who played for FC Porto.

Career

In the club

His professional career began in the 1992/93 season in the north of Portugal to Vitória Guimarães, where played until 1996 before he was hired by Deportivo La Coruña. After just one season, however, he was awarded by the end of the 1999/2000 season at CP Mérida. Subsequently, he was again awarded for a season, this time to CA Osasuna after CP Mérida had to give up the game mode because economic problems. As of the 2001 /02 season he was playing for Deportivo La Coruna, where he also completed several missions in the Spanish League, as well as in the UEFA Champions League. In July 2002, Nuno worked for three million euros from Deportivo La Coruna to FC Porto after he spent five years in Spain. In Porto under José Mourinho, he spent his most successful time by one of the team that won the UEFA Cup, the Portuguese Cup and Portuguese Cup and 2004 UEFA Champions League and once again the Portuguese Cup in 2003. At the end of the year he also won the Intercontinental Cup against Once Caldas from Colombia. In this game, he came in to replace Vitor Baía, who was injured during the game. In early 2005 he moved to Russia Dynamo Moscow, but to fight without a regular place. In the season 2006/ 07 he moved back to Portugal for climbers CD Aves, but without being able to avoid relegation. At the beginning of the season 2007/ 08 he moved back to FC Porto, where he was immediately re- Portuguese masters. After the 2009/2010 season, he finished his career.

In the National Team

Nuno has also been re-nominated for the Portuguese squad for the 2008 European Football Championship, after the goalkeeper Quim injured his wrists.

As a coach

Nuno began his coaching career as a goalkeeper coach Jesualdo Ferreira only to FC Málaga and then at Panathinaikos Athens. In May 2012, he was introduced as the new coach of the Rio Ave FC, after his predecessor Carlos Brito was optional.
