Oberndorf is a municipality in the district of livers of the canton Solothurn in Switzerland.

Geography

Oberndorf is located at 559 m above sea level. M., 3.5 km northwest of the main town Canton Solothurn ( straight line ). The original village street lines extending in a promising position on both sides of the stream, at the foot of the Jura, at the foot of the white stone.

The area of ​​11.9 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the Jura south slope. The lower part of the municipality lies on a slightly inclined towards the south to the Aare valley terrain terrace, which is bounded on the west by the small valley of Bellacherstrasse village of Bach in the south of the forest crest of Heimlisbergs. Also the west of this location Taleinschnitts Busletenwald still belongs to Oberndorf. Approximately at the level of the village center is parallel to the white stone necklace a hilltop meadow, which is a lateral moraine of the glacial Rhone Glacier. The larger northern part of the municipality includes the strong relief decoration and laced with numerous rock bands and white stone chain. The southern slope of the white stone is divided by the headwaters of the stream, which rises in the Chlus, a Ausräumungskessel on the southern slope of the white stone, and the Chesselbachs (simultaneously forms the eastern boundary of Oberndorf ). Both streams flow to deeply buried in the hard Malmkalkschichten of Geissflue and foothill canyons to the south of the Aare. Also, the white stone with the Kurhaus ( 1,284 m above sea level. M. ) lies on the floor of Oberndorf. The northern boundary runs along the Waldkrete with the Hächler ( 1,283 m above sea level. M. ) and the Dilitschkopf on which to 1,333 m above sea level. M. the highest point of Oberndorf is achieved.

Also the Ausräumungskessel the ruffled trench north of the crest of the Jura between Dilitschkopf and Hasenmatt belongs to Oberndorf. Erosion here a so-called Halbklus has formed, in which the hard and softer rock layers of white stone anticlines are well exposed. The frilly grave stream flows to Gänsbrunnen and drained via the design for Birs. From the municipality surface 1997 6 % came from settlements, 68 % of forest and woody plants and 25 % to agriculture.

Due to brisk construction activity the settlement area of Oberndorf is already grown together almost seamlessly with that of Langendorf.

Population

With 1651 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Oberndorf belongs to the medium-sized municipalities in the canton of Solothurn. Of the residents 94.7 % are German, 1.2 % French-speaking and 0.8 % speak Italian and Croatian 0.4% (as of 2000). The population of Oberndorf in 1850 amounted to 585 residents in 1900 to 750 inhabitants. During the 20th century, the population rose to 1920 on 1037 persons, thereafter to remain constant over a long time. Since 1980 (1169 inhabitants) a significant increase in population was recorded again.

Economy

Oberndorf was until the 20th century, a predominantly coined by farming village. The water power of the stream was used previously for the operation of several mills. In several quarries above the village is, or limestone was mined.

Even today, the farming and fruit growing in the lower parts of the municipality as well as animal husbandry and forestry in the higher elevations have a certain role in the occupational structure of the population. Many other jobs are in the local retail industry and the services available. In the church today enterprises of wood processing ( sawmills, carpentry ), the construction and transportation industries, horticulture, computer science and fine mechanical factories are represented. In recent decades, the village has developed thanks to its attractive location into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work mainly in the Solothurn region.

Leisure

The white stone with its spa and restaurant is a popular destination in the region. On clear days can be enjoyed from here a wide panorama of the Swiss Plateau and the Alps from Mont Blanc to the Santis.

In the border area between Oberndorf and Lommiswil is located on the southern slopes of the Jura quarry with the dinosaurs plate of Lommiswil. The tracks were left in front of around 145 million years of Brachiosauriern in the sand along a flat tropical sea that covered large parts of central Europe at the time. The quarry is reached from BLS- stop in wood or Oberndorf on foot in about 20 minutes.

Traffic

The community is located off the major thoroughfares, but is easily accessible from Solothurn. The nearest links to the motorway A5 ( Solothurn- Biel) is located about 5 km from the center. On August 1, 1908, the railway line in the Solothurn -Münster -Bahn from Solothurn to Moutier was taken with a station in Oberndorf in operation. This station is right in front of the south portal of the 3.8 km long white stone tunnel. From here, the Kurhaus and white stone could be easily reached by chairlift Oberdorf- white stone until 2009; since the chairlift not wrong, the connection is enabled on the white stone at least in the summer months on weekends by a post bus line. For the dispersion in public transport the bus to the BSU, which serves the route of Oberndorf via Solothurn to Recherswil provides.

History

The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1305 under the name Oberdorf; by 1327 the name Oberndorf has survived.

Oberndorf was under in the Middle Ages the St. Urs pin in Solothurn in 1344 and came to the city of Solothurn, which from then on both the low and the high jurisdiction exercised. As of 1487, the village of the Bailiwick Flumenthal was subordinated and formed a district court. After the collapse of the Ancien Régime (1798 ) Oberndorf was during the Helvetic Republic to the administrative district of Solothurn and from 1803 to the district livers.

Attractions

The Marian pilgrimage church of Oberndorf with geostetem choir was built around 1420 on the site of an older chapel. She learned in 1604 a major reorganization, when the new nave was built with the choir in the south, while the old system was integrated into the church hall. The church has a rich interior with magnificent pulpit, Wessobrunner Stuck ( 1678 ) and baroque altars and paintings. Next to the church, the late Gothic Cemetery Chapel of St Michael is from 1613.
