Oborniki Śląskie [ ɔbɔrɲik ʲ i ɕlõsk ʲ ɛ ] ( German Obernigk ) is a city in Poland with about 8,400 inhabitants and is located in the northern part of the Province of Lower Silesia in the powiat Trzebnicki.

Geography

The city is located in the cat Mountains, a mountain range north of the Silesian Or, about 10 kilometers west of Trzebnica ( Trebnitz ) and 26 km north from Wroclaw.

History

Because of its good climatic conditions, the 1305 first mentioned village Obernigk developed in cats Mountains in the 19th century to the resort. The landowner Carl Wolfgang Schaubert operation in 1835 to expand the spa.

Previously the site by the poet Charles of Holtei had become known. Holtei, who lived here for several years and in 1821 also married here Obernigk described in several poems.

In 1866, in Breslau broke cholera, many residents fled after Obernigk. By the end of World War II Obernigk belonged to the county Trebnitzgrund and was a favorite resort for the citizens of Wroclaw and other cities in Lower Silesia.
