Office Space

All routine (AKA Office Space ) is an American comedy film directed by Mike Judge from the year 1999.

Action

Peter Gibbons works as a programmer for the software company Initech, to prepare banking software to the year 2000 problem. His colleagues are Samir Nagheenanajar, Michael Bolton and Milton Waddams, a constantly muttering to himself contemporary, which can never prevail and will always be pushed around by his boss Bill Lumbergh. Peters relationship with Bill Lumbergh - Peters Head of Department, which mainly running around with a coffee cup in hand - is tense, he also suffers from stress and burnout.

Peter turns to a hypnotherapist, which should enable him relax. After the therapist has a heart attack during the session and Peter could not take time out of hypnosis, Peter remains in a very relaxed state and decides his dream - to work ever again, simply do nothing - to implement. Equipped with completely new self-confidence, he invites the waitress Joanna out on a date and eventually comes along with it.

Meanwhile, the two were business consultant Bob Slydell and Bob Porter - called Peter only "the Bobs " - instructs to optimize Initech. To this end, they talk with the employees of Initech to find out possible weaknesses of the company. In their conversations with " the Bobs " to try all employees as well as possible to sell. Only Peter, which now only goes to work when he feels like it, does not mince words and tells " the Bobs " as meaningless, he finds his job and that he mostly does nothing.

The Bobs are of the opinion that Peter is a perfect candidate for a leadership position in the company because of his attitude towards his job. To take revenge on Initec decide Peter, Samir and Michael infiltrate a computer virus into the database software and the future automatically accruing interest at each transfer - every time a fraction of a penny - to be transferred to a separate account. Due to a programming error of the virus already $ 305,326.13 shall be paid into the account in a single day. The three friends are not sure that the absence will notice such a large sum and they will end up in prison. Peter decides to take on the responsibility and writes a letter in which he confesses to have written the virus and introduced into the database software. Together with traveler's checks in the amount of the stolen sum he pushes the letter under the office door of his boss Lumbergh and subsequently adopted by his friends and neighbors in the expectation of being arrested shortly.

However, it turns out differently, as Milton - the knew nothing of the matter - Lumberghs office seeks to reclaim his previously stolen of Stapler Lumbergh. However, instead Lumbergh he finds the envelope with letter Peters and traveler's checks. Milton then makes his repeatedly expressed during the movie, but never taken seriously threat true and sets fire to the building. The subsequent fire destroyed both the entire building as well as all computer and the virus contained thereon and so that all the evidence against Peter.

After the fire begin Samir and Michael new jobs as programmers, however, Peter finds his dream job as a construction worker, along with its neighbor Lawrence. Milton, however, is made up with the money to Mexico from and lives there.

James Berardinelli wrote on ReelViews that the satirical depiction of office life should serve only as background. He praised the performances by Ron Livingston, David Herman and Ajay Naidu.
