Oleg Shafarenko

Oleh Leonidowytsch Schafarenko (Ukrainian Олег Леонідович Шафаренко, Russian Олег Леонидович Шафаренко / Oleg Leonidovich Schafarenko; born October 31, 1981 in Kiev, Ukrainian SSR ) is a Ukrainian ice hockey player who since 2012 again at HK Junost Minsk in the Belarusian Extraliga on the position of the striker plays.

Career

Schafarenko played in his native city at HK Sokol Kiev in both the Wyschtscha Liha, as well as in the East European Hockey League. In this he graduated to 2002, also some games for the HK Berkut Kiev, Kiev HK and HK Ldinka Kiev. In the period up to the summer of 2003, he won the title of the Sokol EEHL in 1999 and in the same year, the Ukrainian championship. In the season 2001/ 02 he was behind his teammate Ruslan Besschasny the second best scorer of the Wyschtscha Liha.

At the beginning of the 2003/04 season, the striker moved to Russia and was responsible for the HK Spartak Moscow active in the subprime Wysschaja league. However, he returned before the end of the season for Sokol Kiev, so he won the second championship with the team in spring 2004. In the summer of 2004 Schafarenko left the team again. He moved for two years to HK Khimvolokno Mogilev in the Belarusian Extraliga. With good performances he made the league rivals HK Dinamo Minsk attention to themselves, who signed him for one year. Despite the profit of the Belarusian championship he left the club in the summer of 2007 and joined the city rivals HK Keramin Minsk, with whom he reached the double of league and cup win in 2008.

But even with Keramin Schafarenko remained only a year since he returned to his native city of Kiev. With Sokol Kiev, he won his third Ukrainian National Championship in the spring of 2009. Then another year was followed by the HK Dinamo Minsk, who played now in the Continental Hockey League. In parallel, he ran for their farm team, the HK Schachzjor Salihorsk, in the Belarusian Extraliga. With Salihorsk he was Byelorussian runners before he moved to HK Junost Minsk. With the capital club, he was again in 2011 Belarusian champion and also won the IIHF Continental Cup. For the 2011/12 season he returned to his Ukrainian homeland and received a contract with HK Donbass Donetsk from the Wysschaja Hockey League. After only one year in Donetsk, he moved back to Junost Minsk. After he initially also played with the White Russians in the Wysschaja Hockey League, he joined since 2013 with his team in the Extraliga.

Internationally

Schafarenko represented his country in both the junior and senior level. He first played with the Ukrainian selection at the U18 World Youth Championship in 1999. A year later, he ran in the U20 Junior World Championship in 2000. In the senior in the World Championships of 2006 and 2007 was active. He also wore the national jersey at the World Championship Division I in the years 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013. In 2009 he was elected at the end of the tournament All-Star team. 2013 he was with two goals and eight assists after his compatriot Oleh Tymtschenko second best scorer of the tournament.

In addition, he took to Ukraine in the qualifying tournaments for the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, 2010 in Vancouver and 2014 in Sochi part, left with his team but for each in the second qualifying round.
