The Zimný Štadión Ondreja Nepelu is an indoor ice rink in the Slovak capital Bratislava. It is located on the corner Trnavská cesta and Ulica Odbojárov, about 2.3 km northeast of the old town in the district of Nové Mesto.

History

The history of the stadium will begin when construction started in 1939 and the opening of the first public ice rink in Bratislava in 1940 (capacity 300 people ). 1948/49, new stands were built around the ice around with a capacity of 11,000 standing places. In the course of preparations for the European Figure Skating Championships 1958, the stadium was covered and created 4,800 seats. The last reconstruction took place in the years 1990-1992, before the Ice Hockey World Championship in 1992.

The stadium was named in the early 1990s Zimný Štadión Ondreja Nepelu, named for the figure skaters Ondrej Nepela whose name is still above the entrance. After the entrance of the hall was called sponsors from 2006, T -Com Arena (T -Com Arena), before it was renamed Samsung Aréna 2007. The ice hockey club HC Slovan Bratislava plays its home games from here. The hall offered to the remodeling space for 8,025 spectators, including 7,463 seats.

Remodeling 2010-2011

In the period from April 2009 to February 2011, the venue was rebuilt as part of the preparations for the Ice Hockey World Championship for Men 2011; the capacity rose to 10,000 places. The cost was around 63 million euros. During the construction phase Slovan Bratislava moved ( 3,500 seating capacity ) in the Ice Stadium in Vladimír Dzurilla Ružinov district.

As part of the renovation also an underground parking garage was built with 300 seats and two training halls, and access roads rebuilt. The stadium was for the period of the World Cup 2011 April 29, 2011 to 15 May 2011 the name Orange Arena. The second venue for the World Cup 2011, the Steel Aréna was used in Košice.
