Onesimo Cadiz Gordoncillo

Onesimo Cadiz Gordoncillo ( born February 16, 1935 in Jimalalud, † November 13, 2013 ) was Archbishop of Capiz, Philippines.

Life

Onesimo Cadiz Gordoncillo studied philosophy and theology at Central Seminary in Manila (1954-1961) and received on 18 March 1961, the ordination. He taught from 1961 to 1964 at St. Joseph Seminary in Dumaguete City. At the U.S. Mankato State University, he graduated from 1964-1965 postgraduate studies ( Guidance and Counselling ) and was from 1966 to 1969 Rector of St. Joseph seminary. From 1969 he worked in pastoral care.

Pope Paul VI. appointed him on March 14, 1974 Auxiliary Bishop of Dumaguete and Titular Bishop of Gunugus. He received his episcopal consecration by the Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines, Bruno Torpigliani, on 27 May of the same year; Co-consecrators were Epifanio Surban Belmonte, Bishop of Dumaguete, and Antonio Yapsutco Fortich, Bishop of Bacolod.

On 3 July 1976 he was appointed Bishop of Tagbilaran. On June 18, 1986, he was appointed by Pope John Paul II appointed Archbishop of Capiz and introduced into the office on 27 August 1986.

He was eleven years as president of the Liturgy Commission of the CBCP. He served on the Executive Committee of the International Committee on English in the Liturgy in Washington, DC, on.
