Opuntia leucotricha is a flowering plant in the genus Opuntia ( Opuntia ) from the cactus family ( Cactaceae ). The specific epithet leucotricha means (Latin leucotrichus ) white-haired, bristly '. Trivial names are " Duraznillo Blanco ", " Nopal Blanco ", " Nopal Colorado " and " Nopal Duraznillo ".

Description

Opuntia leucotricha growing tree shaped, richly branched with a large crown and reaches stature heights of 3 to 5 meters. It is formed a striking strain which is covered with up to 8 centimeters long bristles. The downy, oblong to circular drive sections are 15 to 30 inches long. The numerous small areoles are apart up to 1 centimeter. The yellow glochids are located in the upper parts of the areoles. From the lower parts of the areoles one to three, flexible and bristle-like, whitish spines appear. The thorns are up to 3 inches long. A mandrel is much longer than the other.

The yellow flowers reach a length of 4 to 5 centimeters. The ball-shaped, white to purple fruits are 4 to 6 inches long.

Systematics and distribution

Opuntia leucotricha is widely used in Mexican states of San Luis Potosi, Zacatecas, Durango, Guanajuato, Querétaro, Hidalgo and Jalisco on the Altiplano.

The first description was in 1828 by Augustin- de Candolle Pyrame.
