Order of Charles XIII

The Order of Charles XIII. is a Swedish order of knighthood; He was born on May 27, 1811 by King Charles XIII. donated by Sweden. Ordenstag is January 28 ( " Karlstag ").

Foundation Purpose and Structure

In the Order, only a Freemason of the Swedish Rite in the XI. and highest degree are taken with a Protestant denomination. Its purpose of the Order is to encourage lodge members to charity and reward civic virtue.

The number of members is limited to 33 living men, not more than three of which may be members of the clergy and a maximum of ten may be a foreigner; Members " royal blood " are not counted. The minimum age is fixed at 36 years, Royal Prince of Sweden belong to the order of their birth.

The order consists of only a Knight class, the knights are called but ledamöter ( "Members"). The king himself is by Herre och Mästare ( "Lord and Master " ) titled Grand Master of the Order, he granted the accolade.

As a Royal Order of Merit, which is not part of the " system " of the Swedish state orders, he escaped the abolition of the Swedish Order in 1975 and will continue also awarded to Swedish citizens.

Order decoration

Religious character in red - enamelled gold succinct cross, surmounted by a golden crown. The white enameled medallion in the center is cross with golden edging. Centered in the medallion the intertwined initials Stifter C are twice and XIII. The C stands for the spelling of Carl. On the back of the white triangle, a G is a Masonic significance characters.

The Order is supported on a solid red ribbon as a neck order. For orders since 1822 include a cross of red cloth or red enamel; this accessory is worn on the chest. There is a special habit (see figure).

The religious character can be worn as a royal order of merit as opposed to Masonic decorations outside the box.
