Óscar Míguez

Óscar Omar Miguez ( born December 5, 1927 in Artigas, Uruguay; † 19 August 2006) was a Uruguayan football player.

Association

At club level, played the 1.76 meter tall striker from 1949 to 1959 for Peñarol and 1960 for Sporting Cristal. During his time in Montevideo while the profit of the Uruguayan championship in each of the years 1949, 1951, 1953, 1954, 1958 and 1959 is listed for the Aurinegros. In the years 1948 and 1949, respectively Míguez was top scorer in the Primera División.

National

Óscar Omar Miguez Uruguayan national football team, for which he, 39 internationals graduated from its debut on April 30, 1950 against the Paraguayan selection until his last mission on 30 April 1958 in Buenos Aires, as they ran against the national team of Argentina. He scored a total of 27 results.

Míguez participated in the Copa Rio Branco in 1950, the two World Championships in 1950 and 1954, the intervening discharged Pan American Football Championship in 1952, the South American Championships in 1955 and 1956, the Copa del Atlántico in 1956 and the Copa Newton 1957 part.

He scored three goals in the first round at 8-0 against Bolivia. He scored his main two goals in the final round against Sweden. His team was against the current Olympic champion 13 minutes before the end with 1:2 rear, as Míguez with two hits the game in favor of Uruguay was still spinning. After a 2-1 victory in the final match against Brazil was Óscar Omar Miguez football World Cup. Four years later he competed at the World Cup in Switzerland in 1954 to defend the title. In the preliminary round, he scored three goals again, but had injured in the semi-final against Hungary after the quarter-final victory over England pause. The game was lost after extra time 2:4.

In the Americas Championships 1956 he won with the Uruguayans the title. Míguez was named the best player of the tournament.

Death

Míguez died on 19 August 2006 at the age of 78 of heart failure.
