Otovice (Karlovy Vary District)

Otovice ( German Ottowitz ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic. It is located three kilometers north of Karlovy Vary and Karlovy Vary belongs to Okres.

Geography

Otovice is located in the Sokolov Basin. North of the village rises the Vitický vrch (451 m). West and northeast are several disused lignite and Kaolingruben.

Neighboring towns are Kocourek, Březinka and Podlesí in the north, Sadov and Nová Hospoda in the northeast, Vysoká in the east, in the southeast Dalovice, Bohatice and Sedlec in the south, Rosnice the southwest, Čankov in the west and Mezirolí and Nivy in the northwest.

History

The first written mention of Otnawitz dates from 1325, when John of Luxembourg 's faithful Kojata of Otnawitz gave 16 hides of land between the Eger and the Tepla at Elbogen. From 1490 Giles was of Steinbach owner of Otovice. Among the stone Bachern emerged as a fief of the royal castle Loket a manor house. Below the village belonged to different noblemen who were in the service of the castle.

From 1850 formed Ottowitz / Otto vice a municipality in the district of Karlovy Vary. 1930, the municipality had 1480 inhabitants. As a result of the Munich Agreement Ottowitz in 1938 joined the German Empire. At this time passed with the Jacobi colliery, Josefi Colliery, Antoni Eleonore mine, Caroli's pit and the Eleonore mine five small brown coal mines in Ottowitz. 1939 lived 1445 people in Ottowitz. From 1938 to 1945, the community was part of the German district of Karlovy Vary and came to the end of the Second World War back to Czechoslovakia. From 1946 to 1960 Otovice belonged to Okres Karlovy Vary - okolí and since 1961 back to Okres Karlovy Vary. Between 1975 and 1990 Otovice was incorporated to Karlovy Vary.
