Our Ukraine–People's Self-Defense Bloc

Blok Nasha Ukraine Corporation - Narodna samooborona, NU-NS/HУ-НC ( German bloc Our Ukraine - National Self-Defence) from 2002 to 2012, a conservative party alliance in Ukraine. It supported the former president Viktor Yushchenko. The same name party People's Union "Our Ukraine" was part of the Alliance and since 2012 continues to exist under this name until today, but without a seat in the Ukrainian parliament.

Our Ukraine bloc

The block was established in the framework of the Ukrainian parliamentary elections of 2002 as " Nasha Ukraine Corporation " (or " Viktor Yushchenko block Nasha Ukraine Corporation "). 10 moderate nationalist, liberal, and Christian conservative parties came together to him. The Our Ukraine bloc won 23.6 % of the vote and 112 of the 450 seats in the Verkhovna Rada, and thus became the strongest force. However, they could not form a majority against supporters of President Leonid Kuchma and went into opposition.

In the presidential elections in Ukraine in 2004 Yushchenko ran for the block. He could win the first round of voting for himself. In the second, rigged ballot won by the then Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych. This led to massive protests that became known as the Orange Revolution. Here, the Our Ukraine bloc was with the Yulia Tymoshenko bloc ( BJuT ) is the driving force. At this time, the orange color of the block. When the election was fair then repeated on 26 December, Yushchenko won. On January 23, 2005 Yushchenko took office. He appointed Yulia Tymoshenko as prime minister in the orange coalition. However, there was a rift and on 8 September he dismissed the government.

Became new prime minister Yuri Yekhanurov of the People's Union Our Ukraine, which dominates the electoral bloc since its founding in March. As before, part of the block are the Popular Front ( " Ruch " ), the CDI - member Christian Democratic Union and the Congress of Ukrainian Nationalists, the member of the AEN. The Party of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs joined the Alliance " For a united Ukraine" to the block Our Ukraine and the Ukrainian People's Party " Community " left the block Yulia Tymoshenko to join the NU.

In the parliamentary elections of 2006, the block suffered severe setbacks. He only came to 14% and 81 seats, and ranked third. After several months of coalition negotiations Viktor Yanukovych formed Party of Regions, the Communists and the Socialist Party of Ukraine an "anti - crisis coalition " against the parties of the Orange coalition, but tolerated by the Nasha Ukraine Corporation. First, the block at the Government was involved with the ministerial posts, which are the responsibility of the President, so foreign affairs, defense and justice. Gradually, however, the Alliance withdrew into opposition, to put it no more ministers.

Our Ukraine - National Self-Defense

In advance of the 2007 parliamentary elections called Nasha Ukraine Corporation in - to " Nasha Ukraine Corporation Narodna samooborona ". The name change was the merger with the political movement National self-defense under the leadership of former Interior Minister Yuriy Lutsenko account. When choosing NU -NS was able to keep their earnings around. In contrast to the 2006 elections, she was the strongest force almost only in the districts of the Transcarpathian Oblast. In many other regions of Western Ukraine, she was overtaken by Blok Juliji Tymoshenko. The member parties of the NU -NS had agreed in advance of the election, to unite after the voting for a political party. This should be done in spring 2008.

On 15 October 2007, representatives of NU -NS and BJuT a coalition agreement. Thus BJuT should occupy the post of head of government, NU -NS to the President of Parliament and the Minister of Interior. However, soon showed that there are within the NU -NS opponents of an alliance with the Yulia Tymoshenko bloc that could prevent the so-called "coalition of democratic forces ". Even after the opening of the newly elected Parliament refused seven NU -NS - MP ( Stanislaw Dowhyj, Yuri Yekhanurov, Ivan Plyushch, Ihor Kril, Wasyl Petjowka Victor Topolov and Mykola Onishchuk ) its approval of the coalition agreement.

Instead of the planned union to a political party, it came in the spring of a full-blown crisis with signs of disintegration. The cleavage of the government camp in supporters of the president and supporters of the Prime Minister also affected the electoral alliance. Experts expected the medium term breakage of the NU -NS, with parts of the electoral alliance could connect the block Yulia Tymoshenko. On the night of September 3, 2008 voted a bare majority of the NU -NS Group members for a withdrawal from the ruling coalition.

Both the People's Union Our Ukraine, as well as the Popular Movement ( Ruch) have observer status in the European People's Party. In the 2010 presidential election, the incumbent and chairman of the block Yushchenko stand for re- election, but reached only 5.45% of the vote. In the parliamentary elections in 2012, the eponymous member party of the block came back to himself (see below ), while other leaders of the Alliance, founded in 2008 as part of the party united competed center.
