Ožbalt

Ožbalt ( German St Oswald in Drauwald, St. Oswald an der Drau ) is a town in northern Slovenia.

Geography

Ožbalt is located on 306 m above sea level in the valley of the Drava. It belongs to the municipality Podvelka ( Podwölling ) in the region of Lower Styria. The place is located on the left bank ( north bank ) of the river Drava at the confluence of the north, in the area of Kapla ( Kappel ) coming Ožbaltski Potok ( Oswaldbach or Oswald grave Bach) on the road between Maribor and Carinthia. To the south lies the wooded area of Pohorje. East of the village leads another stream also from the Drau valley to the north. In him the Črmenica flows.

History

The area of Ožbalt located in Drauwald, the border area between the historic Lower Carinthia ( Karantanija Duchy of Carinthia, County Jauntal ) and the Mark of the Drava ( "Mark behind the Drauwald ", seen from Carinthia ). This cord was connected by 1147 to Mark an der Mur, so it belongs to the core region of Styria in the Middle Ages. As a border line in Drauwald the running waters of the Velka ( Wölka ) is - Drava Črmenica ( Tschermenitzen Trench east Ožbalt ) accepted. The pre-merger market areas, the area of Ožbalt was thus the easternmost part of the former Lower Carinthia. Whether there was already a settlement at this time is not occupied. After the district classification of Styria in 1462 Ožbalt was in the " district between Mur and Traa " ( Drava ). In the 15th and 16th centuries Ožbalt lay in the territory of the District Courts Mahrenberg and Remschnig. It belonged to the parish of the branch church " Sant Osswaldt bey the Traa " the parish "Our Frawen zw Fresen ."

From 1770, in the first person and houses collection in Austria, houses and people from Ožbalt in Numerierungsabschnitt are captured when westerly place Brezno. Together with the other Numerierungsabschnitten in Mahrenberg and Remschnig belonged to the field of Ožbalt first to Werbbezirk Faal (now Fala ) and later a Werbbezirk Mahrenberg (today Muta ) in the Marburg district. Vicarage was St. Oswald. Ožbalt was a mining town: in the north- west on the road to Kappel is a lead deposits, until 1855 a molten lead was operated. An ore mine was when Divjakhube at Offberg in Remschnigg. In the mica schist of the municipality quartz veins, galena, chalcopyrite, sphalerite and siderite were found that were smelted to 1840 in the community.

In Ožbalt there was a toll booth at the Drauwalder ( Carinthia ) Reichsstrasse. 1898 this tollgate was moved to Wurmath, but in 1900 moved back to the house No. 21 in the former St. Oswald.

Infrastructure

The Slovenian main road 1 " Mariborska cesta " ( Marburger Straße ) results in the area of ​​Ožbalt by the Drau Valley. In Ožbalt two roads branch off to the north. A from the center in the valley of the creek Ožbaltski ( Oswald creek ), a second a few hundred meters to the east in the valley of Črmenica brook. About ten buses and four trains daily connect Ožbalt with Maribor. Power station

One kilometer east of Ožbalt is downstream on the river Drava a hydroelectric power plant. This power plant was built in 1957-1960. After a renovation in the years to 2005, it may with its three turbine sets with a capacity of up to 73 MW of energy. The upper water ( with a filled reservoir) is 299.22 meters above sea level, underwater at 281.80 meters, resulting in a drop height of up to about 17 meters. The reservoir has a volume of 10.5 million cubic meters, of which 1.4 million cubic meters can be availed. It is 12.7 km long and reaches until the drauaufwärts lying power plant at Vuhred ( usury ).

Parish Church

Namesake of the place and Patron ( patron ) of the parish church of St. Oswald, an English king from the 7th century. The St. Oswald applies, and others as the patron of cattle, Reapers and helpers against the plague. His worship is associated with the " Scots mission," a mission shaft by Irish monks in southern Germany in the 12th and 13th century in connection. The name Oswald is returned to the Old High German combination of " Odin" and " exercise " ( reign ), which means " God reigns " in a generic sense to be translated. The existing church was built from 1813 to 1817, its tower dates from the year 1859. Ožbalt A church in 1495 is already mentioned in the " Faaler land register ". The parish Ožbalt / St. Oswald can be confused in the open due to the formulations of the older literature with the parish ( known there as " Localie " ) of St. Oswald. In the 19th century, the patronage of the parish was perceived by the religious fund. The church is entered in the Slovenian Cultural Heritage Register under the number 3216.
