P. C. Hooft Award

The PC Hooft Prize ( nl. PC Hooft - prijs ) is a Dutch literary prize has been awarded since 1947. The award is named after the poet, historian and playwright Pieter Corneliszoon Hooft, whose 300th death anniversary was commemorated in 1947. By 1955 the price of a particular work was commissioned, since so is the entire work of the laureate excellent.

Originally, the PC Hooft Prize was a national prize. In 1984 Hugo Brandt Corstius was nominated for the prize, the then Minister of Education, Culture and Science, Elco Brinkman refused to hand over the prize to Brandt Corstius, as this had, according to Brinkman expressed inappropriately over the government.
