PAE Kerkyra

Athlitikos Omilos Kerkyra is a Greek football club from Kerkyra, playing in the Greek Super League.

History

Founded in Corfu in the 1920s clubs Helespontos (founded in 1923), Kerkyra Aris (1924 ) and Asteras Kerkyra (1926 ) dominated the football championship of the island, but were able to celebrate more success on gesamtgriechischem area. Therefore, the leaders decided in the 1960s to join forces and establish a big club on the island. Therefore in 1967 the club was founded as a merger.

First, the club only played in lower leagues, but was taken over by Spyros Kalogiannis since the club in 1999, there was a rapid rise by rise three times within four years. 2004 then succeeded for the first time, the rise in the Alpha Ethniki, but was followed by the immediate re descent. Although succeeded, 2006, the re-emergence into the Greek top flight, but after the end of the season Kerkyra rose again in the second Greek league. Between 2010 and 2013 AO Kerkyra played again three years in the top Greek league, before being relegated after the 2012/13 season.
