Pahiatua

Pahiatua is a rural town in the south-east of the North Island of New Zealand. It is located 60 km north of Masterton and 30 km east of Palmerston North, and is usually considered to be part of Wairarapa, although it administratively belongs to the Tararua District, which includes the Eketahuna, Pahiatua, Woodville and Dannevirke.

Pahiatua was created in 1881, the first settler was John Hall. The city had a slightly decreasing the Census permanent population of 2,721 (1996 ) 2,610 (2001) and 2562 (2006). 1944 Polish refugees were settled in a former prisoner of war camp 1 km outside the city.

2006 Pahiatua celebrated its 125th anniversary.
