Papyrus 31

(Referred to Gregory- Aland Sigel 31) Papyrus 31 is an early copy of the Greek New Testament. It is a papyrus manuscript of Romans contains only the verses from 12.3 to 8. Using palaeography, it has been dated to the 7th century. The back is not described. It was probably used as a talisman. Hunt suggested that it was a question of a lectionary.

Description

The manuscript is written in medium-sized changeable letters. It appears to be a copy of the lecture to act in church.

The Greek text of this codex is a representative of the Alexandrian text-type. Kurt Aland placed it in Category I. He agrees with the Codex Sinaiticus.

He is currently being held in Manchester with the Rylands Papyri in the John Rylands University Library ( Gr. P. 4).
