Papyrus 44

(Referred to Gregory- Aland Sigel 44) Papyrus 44 is an early copy of the Greek New Testament. It is a papyrus manuscript comes from a lectionary and includes Matthew 17,1-3.6-7; 18,15-17.19; 25.8 to 10 9.3 to 4, and John; 10.8 to 14; 12.16 to 18. Using palaeography, it has been dated to the 6th or 7th century.

The Greek text of this codex is a representative of the Alexandrian text-type. Aland placed it in Category II.

The manuscript dates from Epiphanius monastery near Thebes West in Egypt. It is currently in New York, the Metropolitan Museum of Art under the inventory number 14.1.527.
