Papyrus 47

(Referred to Gregory- Aland Sigel 47) Papyrus 47 is an early copy of the Greek New Testament. It is a papyrus manuscript of Revelation contains the verses from 9.10 to 11.3; 11.5 to 16.15; 16.17 to 17.2. Using palaeography, it has been dated to the 3rd century.

The Greek text of this codex is a representative of the Alexandrian text-type. Aland describes him as " plain text " and placed it in Category I.

The text of the manuscript is the Codex Sinaiticus the next, and there is evidence of one of the earliest textual variants of the Book of Revelation. Another type is represented by the manuscripts 115, Codex Alexandrinus and Codex Ephraemi.

It is currently kept in the Chester Beatty Library ( Inv. 14 1 527) in Dublin.
