Papyrus 77

Papyrus 77 ( in the Gregory- Aland numbering as 77 hereinafter) is an early copy of the New Testament in Greek. It is a papyrus manuscript of the Gospel of Matthew. The surviving text of Matthew are verses from 23.30 to 39. 77 was written in elegant handwriting.

The manuscript was assigned to the second or third century by paleography. Together with Papyrus 103, it probably belongs to the same Code.

Description

The Greek text of this codex is a representative of the Alexandrian text-type. Aland describes him as " at least normal text" and placed it in Category I. 77 is linguistically most closely related to the Codex Sinaiticus.

The papyrus is currently in the Sackler Library as P. Oxy. 2683 or 4405 P.Oxy.LXIV kept in Oxford.
