Parry Channel

Geographical location

The Parry Channel ( German " Parry Channel ") is a 1000 km long strait in the Canadian Arctic. It connects as part of the Northwest Passage, the Baffin Bay (Atlantic Ocean ) in the east to the Beaufort Sea ( Arctic Ocean ) to the west, crossing the territory of Nunavut and the Northwest Territories. From east to west the Parry Channel is from the Lancaster Sound, Barrow Strait, Viscount Melville Sound and the Strait of McClure together. The road separates the Queen Elizabeth Islands in the north of the numerous islands of the Canadian Arctic Archipelago, in the south. At its narrowest point, between Cornwallis and Somerset Iceland Iceland of the Parry channel has a width of about 45 kilometers.

Named the strait is named after the British admiral and Arctic explorer William Edward Parry, who discovered in search of the Northwest Passage many waters and islands in the Arctic.
