History

The town's name probably derives from Altarmenisch Phasiane. The story Pasinlers is closely connected with the history of the city of Erzurum. It begins with the construction of the fortress Hasankale. An inscription shows that it probably goes back to the Urartian king Menua. Since Pasinler and Erzurum were strategically important points, they often changed hands. Pasinler was part of the Byzantine Empire, but was conquered by the Arabs 615 under General Habib 'm Mesleme. The hitherto dominant Armenian region was supplanted by Arabic. 1084 Pasinler was conquered by the Seljuk Turks. After the reign of the Turkish Saltukiden Pasinler 1201 was part of the Sultanate of Rum - Seljuks. These were followed by the Ilkhanate of Persia. Pasinler was then part of several Turkish Beyliks. 1387 Tamerlane conquered Pasinler, and after him the Aq Qoyunlu ruled here. Later Pasinler was Ottoman Sultan Suleiman I and was in 1534 to build a mosque here. Pasinler remained with small interruptions part of the Ottoman Empire until the First World War.
