Pat Fry

Pat Fry ( born March 17, 1964 in England) is an engineer in Formula 1

Fry grew up in Shepperton, south of London, and began a degree in electrical engineering, but he did not graduate. He took a job at Thorn EMI and designed in his spare innovative suspensions for motorcycles. Fry looked in vain for a job in motorcycle racing and instead went to the 1987 Formula 1 Benetton team, which had just begun to develop an active suspension.

First, Fry was there with Pat Symonds in the R & D department works and later with the test team in the testing of the active suspension. When John Barnard joined the team as Technical Director, he replied Fry as head of Benetton Advanced Research Group to Godalming. After Barnard had left the team again, Fry returned in 1991 back into the Test team and in 1992 was race engineer by Martin Brundle.

1993 Fry was brought by his former Benetton colleagues Giorgio Ascanelli to McLaren, where he first worked on the active suspension and then as a race engineer again. In 1995, he lost his job as a race engineer Mika Häkkinen at the come from Williams David Brown, worked for a time back in the development department and returned as an engineer of David Coulthard back to the racetracks. 2002 Fry became chief engineer of the team and as such was responsible for the development of the MP4- 20 for the 2005 season, the MP4- 22 for 2007 and the MP4- 24 for 2009.

After leaving McLaren in May 2010 after 18 years, Fry took over on 1 July 2010, the position of Deputy Technical Director at the Scuderia Ferrari.
