Rules

One of the biggest changes to the regulations for the 2007 season was that the Friday sessions were extended from 60 minutes to 90 minutes. In the sessions on Friday, but only two cars may be used, the regular driver have to share with a Friday test driver itself. To this may be used separately engines here too, which are not covered by the 2- race rule.

The FIA ruled that the FIA electronics to be used in every race and in every test. Furthermore, it was determined that for a premature engine change the driver ten places on and at a premature gearbox change five places will be set back. In addition, the Formula 1 teams are allowed only once to change the gear ratio at each race weekend.

Because since the 2007 season until 2010 on the motors nothing can be changed, the two- race rule only applies for Saturday and Sunday. On Friday, any motor may be used. Thus is to be achieved, that is on the Fridays of each Grand Prix more on the race track.

In case of a safety car phase, the racers must not come into the pits until all drivers have caught up with the safety car. However, lapped drivers can before the restart to overtake the rest of the field and the safety car, back round and unlock at the end of the field. Thus, no stragglers are located at the restart between more direct opponents.

For the monopolist Bridgestone tires it was now that all Formula 1 teams have to drive with the same material. Per race weekend may Bridgestone offer only two types of tires. In relation to the wet tires, each driver may now use up to 14 sets of tires, but on Saturday and Sunday only 10

During a race must be used in both a soft and a hard version of the Bridgestone tire. To make this clear to the audience, one of the grooves must be marked in white with soft tires. At the beginning of the season tire was marked with a barely recognizable location.

Double world champion Fernando Alonso joined after five years at Renault to McLaren - Mercedes. Lewis Hamilton was second team driver in the team of Ron Dennis.
