Pato Banton

Pato Banton ( born October 5, 1961 in London, England, real name Patrick Murray ) is a British dancehall reggae singer.

Career

Pato Banton was born in London, but moved at the age of 8 years to Birmingham. Already in the 1970s gave him to practice his musical talents by his stepfather, the Jamaican DJ Lester Daley, opportunity, he left the boy as an MC in his V- Rocket Reggae Sound System join. Soon he got the nickname Pato. At a talent competition, which he won, he met Roger " ranking " Charlery know, who had been one of the judges. They became friends and in 1982 produced Pato first recordings with his band, The English Beat, and had a guest appearance on the album Special Beat Service with the song Pato and Roger a Go Talk.

In 1987, his solo debut album, Never Give In. Followed in 1990 Wize Up! (No Compromize ), it was a cover version of the Police song Spirits in the Material World, which was for Pato Banton for the first hit. On the plate was a common song with David Hinds of Steel Pulse. In the same year, in collaboration with Mad Professor was the dub album Mad Professor Pato Banton recaptures, then a live album and in 1992 came out Universal Love. In 1994, Pato Banton Collections with his next album out, and another cover version became a hit, which surpassed the previous successes. Dating in the original by Eddy Grant Baby Come Back piece, sung by Pato Banton together with Robin and Ali Campbell of UB40 was four weeks at # 1 in the British music charts and in the top 5 in 20 other countries.

More albums came out afterwards in not quite as rapid succession. Life Is a Miracle reached a Grammy nomination for Best Reggae Album in 2001.
