Paul Struye

Paul Victor Antoine Struye ( born September 1, 1896 in Ghent, † February 16, 1974 in Ixelles / Elsene ) was a Belgian legal scholars, academics, politicians Christelijke Volkspartij ( CVP) Parti Social Chrétien ( PSC) and two-time long-time President of the Senate.

Biography

After school he studied law and was after becoming a Doctor of Law as a professor at the Catholic University of Leuven active.

His political career began in 1936 with the election as a member of the municipal council ( Gemeenteraad ) Ixelles. This he first belonged until 1938 and then again from 1945 to 1959. In 1946 he was elected Senator and represented as such until 1973, the constituency of Brussels -Halle- Vilvoorde.

On March 20, 1947 Struye was appointed Minister of Justice in the government of Prime Minister Paul -Henri Spaak and belonged to this until November 27, 1948.

On 27 June 1950 he was finally first President of the Senate, and held this position until March 12, 1954. On 24 June 1958 he was again President of the Senate and held this office finally held until his retirement from the Senate on 5 October 1973.

On December 23, 1958 it next to some other people the honorary title of Minister of State ( Ministre d' Etat) was awarded.
