Pavel Složil

Pavel Složil ( born December 29, 1955 in Opava ) is a former Czechoslovak tennis player.

Career

Pavel Složil achieved some success in singles, including two tournament victories in Nancy and Kitzbühel. No. 35 in the world rankings was his best position in November 1984. In doubles, he was far more successful, where he gained a total of 32 titles in his career and stood in 29 other finals. In February 1985, he was listed in fourth place in the double world ranking due to this success. At the French Open in 1984 he reached the finals of the doubles competition, which lost he and his partner Tomáš Šmíd in five sets against Henri Leconte and Yannick Noah. His first final at a Grand Slam denied Pavel Složil in 1978, also at Roland Garros. In the mixed competition benefited he and his partner Renáta Tomanová of the injury-related tasks of their competitors Virginia Ruzici and Patrice Dominguez when the score was 7:6 for Pavel Složil and Tomanová.

Between 1978 and 1986, denied Pavel Složil total of eleven matches for the Czechoslovak Davis Cup team. Both his solo record with 7:2 victories as well as his double record with 4-2 victories are positive. His biggest success in the Davis Cup, he celebrated in 1980 when he won the competition together with Ivan Lendl, Tomáš and Jan Šmíd Kodeš. He came here in the semi-final and the final of the Europe zone against France and Romania for use, as well as in intercontinental semi-final against Argentina. In the final against Italy, he was also in the squad, but was not used.

After his playing career Pavel Složil was active as a coach. Middle of the year 1986 he was engaged as coach of Steffi Graf and remained so until 1991. During this time, Graf won ten Grand Slam singles titles and 51 other tournaments. From 1992 to 1999, he served as manager of Jennifer Capriati, Anna Kournikova and Magdalena Maleewa. Since 2002 he has worked as a tennis director at World Tennis Club in Naples, Florida.
