Pedro Rubiano Sáenz

Cardinal Pedro Rubiano Sáenz (* September 13, 1932 in Cartago, Colombia) is a retired Archbishop of Bogotá.

Life

Pedro Rubiano Sáenz studied Catholic theology and philosophy at the seminary of the Diocese of Cali and received on 8 July 1956, the sacrament of Holy Orders.

More years of study led him to the University of Laval in Quebec City, before he held various priestly duties as parish chaplain, vicar at a military school, university chaplain and hospital chaplain. He also served as vice-rector of the University of Santiago.

Pope Paul VI. appointed him on 2 June 1971 for the Bishop of Cúcuta. The episcopal ordination he received from Angelo Palmas, the Apostolic Nuncio in Colombia. Co-consecrators were Alberto Uribe Urdaneta, Archbishop of Cali, and Alfredo Rubio Diaz, Archbishop of Nueva Pamplona. John Paul II appointed him on March 26, 1983 Koadjutorerzbischof of the Archdiocese of Cali before he held the second archbishop took over the management of the Archdiocese on February 7, 1985. Rubiano Sáenz was chairman of the Colombian Episcopal Conference and is a member of the Congregation for Catholic Education and the Pontifical Council for the Pastoral Care of Migrants and Itinerant People. He is Grand Prior of the Province of British Columbia Equestrian Order of the Holy grave in Jerusalem.
