Pedro Segura y Sáenz

Cardinal Pedro Segura y Sáenz ( born December 4, 1880 in Carazo, Spain, † April 8, 1957 in Madrid) was Archbishop of Burgos, Toledo and Seville.

Life

Pedro Segura y Sáenz received his theological and philosophical education in Burgos and Comillas. He received on 9 June 1906, the sacrament of Holy Orders, and then worked as a seminary teacher and parish minister in the Archdiocese of Burgos. From 1912 to 1916 he was a member of the Catholic Theological Faculty of the University of Valladolid and worked in the administration of the Archdiocese of Valladolid. In 1916 he was appointed Pope Benedict XV. Titular Bishop of Apollonia and auxiliary bishop in Valladolid. The bishop ordained Pedro Segura y Sáenz by the Archbishop of Valladolid, José Cardinal Cos y Macho.

Pope Pius XI. took him on 19 December 1927 as cardinal priest with the titular church of Santa Maria in Trastevere to the College of Cardinals. Pedro Segura y Sáenz 1931 by the Republican government of Spain forced to leave the country and fled to Rome. He laid down the line of the Archdiocese of Toledo. In 1937 he was able to return to the held in the Spanish Civil War by Franco's troops "national" part of Spain and became archbishop of Seville. Pedro Segura y Sáenz took part in the conclave of 1939. He died on 8 April 1957 in Madrid and was buried in Seville. In 1928 he was awarded the Grand Cross with Collar of the Order of Charles III. excellent.
