Pelageya Shajn

Pelageja Schain Fyodorovna (Russian Пелагея Фёдоровна Шайн, born Sannikova ( Санникова ), * 1894, † August 27, 1956 in Moscow) was a Soviet / Russian astronomer. In modern English literature her first name is given as Shayn, in astronomical discoveries but it will run under the name PF Shajn. However, her last name is also often given in publications as Schajn and the first name with Pelageja.

Schain was the wife of Grigory Abramovich Schain ( Григорий Абрамович Шайн ), who was also a Russian astronomer.

Schain was Mitentdeckerin of the periodic comets 61P/Shajn-Schaldach. However, it was the non-periodic comet C/1925 F1 ( Shajn - Comas Solá ), also known as Comet 1925 VI or comet 1925a, discovered by her husband.

She discovered numerous asteroids and about 150 variable stars.
