Pelican Waters, Queensland

Pelican Waters is a coastal town on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia.

Geography

Pelican Waters Golden Beach is along with the southernmost suburb of the town of Caloundra and is six kilometers away from downtown Caloundras. It lies on the Coral Sea. The capital of Queensland, Brisbane is 75 kilometers away.

A special feature is that many houses were built on waterways and thus have direct access to the sea.

History

1946 Roy Henzell bought the 800 -acre piece of land which Pelican Waters is today. In his time, the area was a large swamp area grew on the tea trees. After his death, the acquired territory passed into the possession of his son Bevan, who had the idea to develop the wetland to a settlement with water channels. His son Roy Henzell Junior it was finally realized by the idea into action. From the 1989 first lands were acquired in the newly constructed site.

Since then, the population increased continuously. 2001 1721 inhabitants were counted in the Australian census. At the last census in 2011 the population was 5,046.

Also the water channel system continued to evolve. In 2006, dams were introduced to the smooth functioning of the system.
