Caloundra

Caloundra ( / kəlæɔn.dɹə / ) is the southernmost town on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia. Caloundra has a population number of 87 596 (2006 ) and is located about an hour north from the business district (CBD - City Business District ) of Brisbane. Up to the Brisbane International Airport is approximately 45 minutes.

Urban suburbs

From south to north:

  • Golden Beach and Pelican Waters are the southernmost suburbs of Caloundra.
  • Little Mountain is the westernmost suburb Caloundras.
  • Caloundra is located on the coast and central to the city Caloundra.
  • Currimundi and Aroona be dominated by apartment buildings and parks.
  • Wurtulla, Warana are Bokarina and residential areas along the Nicklin Way.
  • Kawana Iceland is located west of Warana and developed into a residential area.
  • Kawana Waters is the largest suburb in the northern suburbs.
  • Buddina is located on the Mooloolah River and is especially popular among surfers.
  • Minyama lies on the Mooloolah River and is the northernmost suburb Caloundras.

Others

  • In the dialect of Aboriginal Kalowendah ( Caloundra ) means place of the beech.
  • Bulcock Beach and the main street of Caloundra, Bulcock Street, both of which were named after the politician Robert Bulcock from Brisbane. In 1875 Bulcock bought 277 Ar in the region, which today includes Caloundra.
  • Every year one instead of three Australian Tennis Challenger tournaments in Caloundra.
  • Caloundra is held annually in September or October, the Caloundra Music Festival.
