Geography

Location

Perl is located in the border triangle of Germany, France and Luxembourg on the slopes of the right upper Moselle and is hidden away on the Moselle district up. On the other side of the Moselle Luxembourg lies with the villages Schengen and Remich. The Perl community is bounded on the west ( districts Besch, Nenning and Perl) of the Moselle, which forms the border with Luxembourg here. Since the Moselle here for a length of about ten kilometers forms the Saarland part of the Community German -Luxembourg territory which is not part of the community, Perl limited strictly to this area and thus not directly to the left of the Mosel nearby Canton Remich Luxembourg. In the south of the town abuts France (Lorraine ) with the places Apach, Belmach and Merschweiller, in the north of Rhineland- Palatinate. The eastern neighbor is the community Mettlach. The highest point of the municipality is the second walk on the French border Schneeberg in Eft ( 429 m above sea level).

Community structure

The Perl community is divided 14 districts, which are assigned to eleven municipal districts. Population figures as at 31 December 2010:

Oberleuken, Keßlingen and Münzingen and Tettingen - Butzdorf and Wochern each form a joint district, the remaining municipal districts are identical to the districts.

District Perl

The district Perl itself has 2129 inhabitants and stretches from the banks of the Moselle between the vineyards of the hill. Perl is right on the border of the French department of Moselle. Border town is Apach. Just before the border with France is the Moselschleuse Apach. On the other side of the river lies the Luxembourg Schengen.

District Borg

Borg is 355 m high on the Saargau, which is here called on the Moselle Moselle district also. Borg has 390 inhabitants.

The Villa Borg is one of the important Roman archaeological sites in the Saarland.

District Eft Hellendorf

Eft - Bright village has 312 inhabitants. The place is in Saargau am Schneeberg, the highest point in the municipality of Perl. The first mention dates from around 1130. Through the two districts Eft and Hellendorf flows Leukbach, which rises in Eft.

District Münzingen

Münzingen is the smallest district of the municipality Perl. Münzingen has 50 inhabitants and is located 360 meters high on the Saargau on the border to Rhineland- Palatinate. The place is first mentioned in 1533. The " greiffenklauschen yards to Keßlingen and Münzingen " are mentioned in 1662. A curiosity is that Münzingen (although located in the Saarland ) belongs to the parish church as a branch Kirf ( Rhineland -Palatinate).

District Nennig

Nennig has 1,149 inhabitants, near the border to Rhineland- Palatinate and Luxembourg. Nennig is first mentioned in 924, but prove to the Roman mosaic floor and the grave mound located on the outskirts, that the place was already inhabited in Roman times. Two hundred meters northwest of the Roman mosaic pavement is the parish church of St. Martin.

History

Traces of settlements from the Mesolithic period found in Perl and the surrounding area as well as grave fields from the Bronze and Iron Ages. Celtic place names and Roman buildings demonstrate the attractiveness of the location at all times. The Roman villa in Nennig dates from the 4th century and was probably destroyed by the Norman battle 882. Medieval castles and churches are more witnesses of the past. The oldest written mentions from the 9th century. The area belonged to Trier, Luxembourg, Lorraine, France and the Habsburg Empire. After the Congress of Vienna Perl belonged to Prussia ( the Trier region of the Prussian Rhine Province ), until 1946 it was the Saarland. In the course of municipal reform on 1 January 1974 from the 14 previously independent municipalities Besch, Borg, Büschdorf, Eft Hellendorf, Kess Lingen, Münzingen, Nennig, Oberleuken, Oberperl, Perl, Sehndorf, Sinz, Tettingen - Butzdorf and Wochern the new Perl community.

The mayoral election on 4 March 2007 led to a change in the mayor's office.

Economy and infrastructure

Perl is the only producers of the Saarland. This means Saarländischer wine is grown only on the Mosel, the wine in the Saar takes place in Rhineland -Palatinate, Saarland about Castle. Perl is part of the Mosel wine region (formerly Mosel -Saar- Ruwer ), Moseltor area. As a major location for the territory of the municipality Perl Bübinger lock has been set. Mosel down joins the Upper Moselle area.

Perl was the headquarters of the pharmaceutical importer carbon Pharma, which is the largest employer of the circle. The headquarters has now moved to Merzig. Part of the company remained still in Perl.

Perl -Borg is the headquarters of the Fixemer Logistics GmbH, founded in 1951 by Karl Fixemer.

Traffic

About the Federal Highway 8 Perl is connected to the national road network, not only in Germany but also the south of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and Belgium. With the viaduct of Schengen on the Mosel German A 8 is connected to the Luxembourg A13 since 2003.

In France, the community is connected through the B 419. Border town is Apach. The community were crossed also by the federal highway 407 ( Perl Hermes wedge).

There is also a railway connection to Trier along the Mosel; on the territory of the municipality Perl are the stations Perl, Besch and Nennig. The railway line to Metz has been used over several years exclusively by freight. On 10 June 2007, the cross-border passenger was taken on the Upper Moselle route again. Trains provisionally but only on weekends. This tells Perl is connected to the TGV railway stations Metz and Thionville.

Education

In Perl, is that from the Saarland and Luxembourg jointly supported, opened in August 2007 German -Luxembourg Schengen Lyceum, can be purchased in the degrees under Luxembourg law and Saarländischem.

Leisure

Perl is located on the Moselle district - loop of the Saarland circular trail. The Way of St. James runs from Trier Coming also dot the municipality. The Panorama Perl is one of the few German premium trails that are on German and French territory. In addition, the Mosel bike path runs through the districts Nennig, Besch and Maimühle. In the district of Perl 's indoor pool is " bubble bath ".
