Péter Baczakó

Péter Baczakó ( born September 27, 1951 in Ercsi, † April 1, 2008 in Budapest) was a Hungarian weightlifter.

Life

In 1976 he won at the Olympic Games in Montreal a bronze medal in the light heavyweight division. Four years later he won the gold medal in the middle heavyweight at the Olympic Games in Moscow. At the World Championships he was able to win silver and bronze medals in six different weight classes throughout his career three. In 1979 he was European champion; next he came at European Championships six times in the second and four times on the third place.

Baczakó died at age 56 from the effects of cancer, he also was suffering from muscular dystrophy.
