Pfinz

Weir at the Pfinz in Karlsruhe

The Pfinz is a good 60 km long right (eastern ) tributary of the Rhine in Baden- Württemberg.

Course

The Pfinz rises on the northern edge of the Black Forest near Straubenhardt - Pfinzweiler. It flows through the southern Kraichgau before it enters near Karlsruhe - Grötzingen in the Upper Rhine Valley. There the Pfinz - relief channel is derived. In Blankenloch the Heglach branches off the main water volume of the Pfinz. From the turnoff to the confluence of the rolling brook, the river bed is usually waterless. Between Blankenloch and Friedrichstal the old creek flows from the left in the Pfinz. In Stafford ( constant ford ) crosses the Pfinz an old Roman road. In Neuthard the Pfinz enters the Pfinzkanal, the draining water of Pfinz to Saalbach channel. The old bed leads to a small residual amount of water to the northwest. In digging the Pfinz reunited with the Heglach to open in Rußheim in the Rhine valley channel.

Between 1934 and 1962 numerous water construction projects were carried out for flood protection in the course of Pfinz -Saalbach- correction.
