Piesau

Piesau is a municipality in the district Saalfeld- Rudolstadt, in Thuringia ( Germany ). The municipality belongs to the administrative community Lichtetal am Rennsteig, which has its headquarters in the town of light.

Geography

Piesau is located in the heart of the Thuringian Slate Mountains in the valley of the river of the same name. The site stretches over two kilometers in this valley back and goes to the north seamlessly into the community light. Is framed by the village 804 meters high central mountains to the west, the 755 meter high Hirschenstein the east and the 761 meter high Rodeberg in the south. The water of the village stream ( the Piesau ) is auriferous. Piesau is surrounded by vast pine forests and borders the only village of the district Saalfeld- Rudolstadt on the Rennsteig.

Coat of arms

The coat of arms was approved on 22 January 1992.

Blazon: "In a red -curved ascending silver tip, front a silver pitcher, behind a silver, crowned lion, the top with four black fall rafters occupied. "

The coat of arms was designed by Frank heraldist Diemar.

Economy and infrastructure

Traditional industries Piesaus include glass, wood and porcelain industry as well as tourism. Earlier also the mining was on various ores of importance.

Roads connect Piesau with light, Spechtsbrunn and Ernst Thal am Rennsteig. The nearest rail connection is located about five miles south in Ernst Thal am Rennsteig on the railway line Sonneberg -Neuhaus.

The Red Cross Mountain Rescue willingness Piesau is responsible for rescue operations on adjacent Rennsteig and the Morassina in forging (Lichtetal ).
