Pilar (Sorsogon)

Pilar is a Philippine municipality in the province of Sorsogon. It has 68 245 inhabitants ( census May 1, 2010 ) living in 49 barangays. Pilar belongs to the first class of income communities in the Philippines. It is located about 36 km southwest of the provincial capital of Sorsogon City at the output of Ticao channel. Your neighboring municipalities are Castilla in the east, Donsol in the west and the municipalities in the province of Albay to the north.

The climate in Pilar is referred to with the common in the Philippines Modified Coronas Classification as Type II. Rains occur throughout the year, the months of November to January are considered the wettest. The Bicol Region lies within the typhoon in the Philippines.

The first settlements in the municipal area in the 16th century, a large shipyard was built on the island Bagatao. On her Galleons were built, which were used in trade with the South American Spanish colonies.
