Sorsogon City
Sorsogon City is a component city and capital of the Philippine province of Sorsogon in the Administrative Region V, Bicol. It has 155 144 inhabitants ( census May 1, 2010 ) living in 64 barangays. Sorsogon City was awarded on December 16, 2000 the status of a major city in the Philippines.
The city is known as the gateway to the southern Philippines. It is a major port city for ferries, translate the passengers, buses and trucks of the island of Samar to the island of Luzon. The city is thus an important hub on the Marharlika Highway. The area in which is Sorsogon City, is an old settlement area in the southern Bicol region. In a cave in Bacon 3,000 year old artifacts and traces of settlement have been found.
Geography
Sorsogon City is located about 368 km southeast of the capital of the Philippines Manila. To the north, bordering the Gulf of Albay and on the southwest by the Bay of Sorsogon. Your neighboring municipalities are Casiguran in the south, Prieto Diaz and Gubat in the east, Castilla in the west and northwest it borders the municipality of Manito in Albay province.
The topography of the city is divided into four different types of terrain. In the Northwest are the rugged, towering out of the plane Pocdolberge that reach a height of 1,102 meters and caused by prolonged volcanic activity. In him the large, commercially exploited Bacon - Manito - thermal source field is at least one active geyser. The other landforms are smaller, higher-lying plateau, large plains and vast plains on the coasts marshes.
Attractions
In PNOC - Ecopark lie on a surface of 251 km ² of forests. It is situated in the territory of Bacon - Manito Mountains. In the park are the Botong Twin Falls and the two geothermal power plants Bacon - Manito I and II Paguriran Island is located in the district of Bacon, in the center of the island is a shallow lagoon. To the island of the Bacon Marine Sanctuary was established to protect the marine fauna and flora.
