Piotr Murdzia

Piotr Murdzia ( born February 20, 1975 in Gdańsk ) is a Polish chess player and world champion in solving chess problems.

Solving chess problems

World Championships

Murdzia was guided to Marcin Banaszek for chess composition. He is a six-time world champion in solving chess problems. For the first time at the World Championships in 1991, he took part in Rotterdam, finishing in tenth place. 2001 in Wageningen, he became Vice World Champion. His first World Championship title he won in 2002 in Portorož. 2004 in Kallithea (Chalkidiki ), he was second again. His second world title he won in 2005 in Eretria, his third in 2006 in Wageningen. 2007 in Rhodes, he was World Cup Third, 2008 in Jurmala, he won for the fourth time. 2009 and 2012 he was the fifth and sixth time to win the world title. With the Polish national team he won at the World Championships 2001 in Wageningen, the third, 2006 in Wageningen the second and 2008 in Jurmala back to third place. From 2009 to 2012, the Polish national team won the title four times in a row.

European Championships

Four times he took part in the European Championships. 2005 in Legnica he became vice European champion. 2006 in Warsaw, he was able to win the title. 2007 Pardubice he finished third. 2008 in Antalya, he was European champion again. With the Polish national team, he finished 2007 in Pardubice third place.

Title and rating

Since 2002, he has the title of a Grand Master in solving chess problems. His current rating number is 2767 (as of July 1, 2012), so it is on the first place of the PCCC world rankings. His previous highest Elo rating in solving chess problems was 2860, this is at a distance of 41 points on Georgi Ewsejew the highest Elo rating, which has been achieved in this discipline by a solver.

Tournament chess

1991 and 1995 he won the Polish Individual Championship U20, 1993, he occupied at the Polish U18 championship in second place.

Polish Junior Team Champion, he was with Gedania Gdansk 1990, 1991, 1992 and 1993, now he plays for SKF Korsarz Gdynia In Germany he played in the 2nd team of the Hamburg SK, since the 2004/ 05 season in the first team of the SV Griesheim. In the Czech Republic, he played for TZ Třinec, later Slavoj Ostrava- Poruba.

Since 1994, he has the title of International Master. Grandmaster standards he set in 1998 at an open in Świdnica and 2003 in a round robin tournament in Legnica. His current Elo rating in chess tournament is 2471 (as of October 2012), so it is on the 37th place in the Polish Elo ranking. His previous highest Elo rating was 2485 in January 2010.
