The Piz Mundaun with 2064 m above sea level. M. is a mountain in the canton of Graubünden in Switzerland.

Location

The Piz Mundaun is located southwest of Ilanz in the Grisons Surselva and is in the region sometimes called the Grisons Rigi. From its summit you can enjoy a panoramic view as far as the Bernese and Austrian Alps. Many visitors describe the Piz Mundaun therefore as one of the most beautiful mountains in Switzerland, most likely is the prospect with the compare to the Rigi on Lake Lucerne.

On the northern slope of the Piz Mundaun are the villages Flond and Surcuolm. In contrast to the neighboring Obersaxen, which was settled by Walser and is German, it is called Romansh here. On the south side of the Val Lumnezia lies with the Roman towns Vella, Morissen and Cumbel. With more than 15 lifts of Piz Mundaun is an important winter and in summer a popular hiking area.

After the Piz Mundaun the new municipality is named Mundaun to the merged 2009 Surcuolm and Flond by January 1.

Description

On the south side rich steep grass slopes to the summit, north side locks a rock bank direct access. From Surcuolm a ski lift reaches up to the ridge, where, about 100 meters west of the survey point, the guest house is situated. Marked mountain trails provide easy access from all sides. One of the ways continues over the ridge to Piz Sezner.
