Vella GR

Vella ( [ velɐ ]? / I, and German until 1987, officially Villa ) was until December 31, 2012, a municipality in the Val Lumnezia, Surselva district in the canton of Graubünden in Switzerland. Neighboring communities were Cumbel, cutlasses, Morissen, Obersaxen, Suraua and Surcuolm.

On January 1, 2013, it merged with the municipalities Cumbel, cutlasses, Lumbrein, Morissen, Suraua, Vignogn and Vrin the new community Lumnezia.

The pelican feeding its young with its blood, in Christian iconography is the symbol of Christ's sacrifice, but is also used for the church as a whole. Here it stands for the mother church of the valley Damphreux in Pleiv / sword.

Population

Of the 2000 residents 84 % Romansh ( Sursilvan ) have with the Federal census in specified as native language, 14% German, and 1% Serbo-Croatian. Since 1992, the population increased by around 3%.
